# StudityAI vs Anki

> Anki is the gold-standard open-source spaced-repetition app, but every flashcard is manual. StudityAI generates spaced-repetition cards from a PDF automatically, and adds AI chat, mindmaps, quizzes and an exam simulator.

**Free tier**: Forever-free, no credit card. Includes 4 spaces with up to 8 documents each, 15 AI chats per day, flashcards, mindmaps and a spaced-repetition review queue. Maximum file size 8 MB.

## TL;DR

Anki has the most tunable spaced-repetition engine available, is free and open source, and works offline. None of that is in dispute. The difference is card creation: in Anki you write every card by hand, while StudityAI generates them from a PDF and adds document chat, mindmaps and a mock-exam mode. StudityAI exports to Anki, so the two can be used side by side.

## What Anki is good at

- Free desktop app, open source
- Most powerful spaced-repetition algorithm (FSRS)
- Massive community shared decks library
- Highly customizable card templates
- Mature mobile app (paid on iOS)

## What StudityAI adds

- Auto-generated flashcards, no more hours of manual carding
- AI chat with your documents
- Mindmap generator
- Quiz generator
- PDF upload and reading
- Exam planner
- Modern UI (web app, PWA, instant access)
- Export to an Anki-compatible TSV file, so you can keep using Anki desktop if you want
